8th - BABY [-1]
It feels weird to put BABY 8th, mainly because they did win one match against HBK, who I had placed higher, but then lost against RLS in a very exciting upset-game. Luru seems to be shining on this team. There have been some weird misplays that just seemed to work out because of him in their match against HBK. However, losing to the expected “worst team” will have to force them to drop lower in the rankings.
7th - RLS [+1]
RLS achieve their first win in the season against Team BABY. When RLS joined the league, the common joke has been saying “0-14” when this team has been brought up in conversation. However, now it looks like that joke won’t be able to exist anymore. Ahntye and MkStroam really showed up last week when they took down BABY. I think it’s really hard to place them higher than 7th right now, unless RLS pulls out another upset against either POG or ACE this weekend.
6th - OOD [+/-]
Based off just initial appearance, I thought OOD taking Draven was going to be their trump card. Although both Photograph and Antoons were able to score some 2v2 kills, it didn’t take long for Bobrovsky and Gunsi to take them down. This week, they’ll stay in 6th place, but honestly, depending on their performance this week against HBK and BABY, this team will probably shoot up in the Week 4 Power Rankings.
5th - HBK [-1]
Man… Like… I don’t even know where to put HBK. They went 2-0 against SGR and RLS during Week 1. SGR is a good team, but it didn’t feel like HBK took that game convincingly. In Week 2, HBK went 0-2 against BABY and TUB. It’s hard to place them over OOD, but until we see that match occur this week, I think 5th place is a good spot to put HBK. I know some substitution situations happened last week, so I’m definitely writing this down keeping that in mind. In the end, we’ll have to see how they fare against OOD and ACE this weekend.
4th - ACE [-3]
This last week, ACE lost a critical match against TUB, who is looking like the best team in the league right now. Additionally, ACE had to unfortunately forfeit their match against OOD. It happens sometimes. It’s a long tournament so scheduling issues are bound to occur. It hurts their standings a lot, forcing ACE to be tied for last place currently. However I still think this is a very strong team that’s still taking it’s time to mesh together with their new members.
3rd - SGR [-1]
This past week, my producer kept gushing about how much he enjoys watching Frozen. For the longest time, I thought he meant the Disney movie. Of which, then I had flashbacks of my college days where Chris Sunga would consistently sing “Let it Go” when the movie came out. It was only today that I realized he meant the SGR player. Anyways, the individual skill on SGR is very high. Plus, I love the fact that we’re seeing StreetSmurf on supportive mids this season. We’re used to seeing him pop off and attempt to 1v9 matches, but now it looks like he’s got a team that he can trust and support. We’re no longer seeing players attempt to “gap” their opponent. Instead, we’re seeing teams actually form a style and compete using their own strategies.
2nd - POG [+1]
Death, taxes, and Bobrovsky beating you in a smite fight. These are the three constants of life. In all seriousness, POG took two wins this past week. In both games, the early game looked a little shaky, but I think it’s more powerful for a team to be able to know how to keep the game alive when behind, rather than being able to grab early leads. POG has turned the game around basically three times out of four games. Gunsi’s solo laning and teamfight capabilities have been the key factors in all of POG’s wins. Albeit Gunsi literally played “clean-up” a LOT in these games, it still shows how impeccable his timing is.
1st - TUB [+4]
Here’s a little behind-the-scenes leak: When the season started, our producer had us all meet and passed around packets of information about each of the teams. It contained stuff like player stats, individual histories, and team storylines. When it came to TUB, there wasn’t a whole lot that we could say, to be honest. Not because we thought the team was bad, but there were just a lot of “question marks” when we were trying to talk about them. This team BLEW our expectations out of the water. Krumpy has always been an amazing Bot Laner, and we were genuinely curious how he was going to lead a team. But after witnessing such a fantastic performance from Rhyre and Lamar the Lizard, I can’t help but smile. This team took down our reigning Champions with ease and will look to repeat their performance against SGR and POG this weekend.
