Meet the FFS3 Mythic Playoff Teams

With playoffs at our doorstep, let’s take a look at the final six teams entering the bracket stage in our FFS3 Mythic League.

Team H-Block [HBK] - 6th Seed

Team HBK came into the season with relatively low expectations, as most teams naturally would with nearly completely new rosters. HBK features one returning member from Season 2, ProLupul. This Potato Peelers Jungler has formed his own team entering into Season 3 and opened up the series with a banger 2-0 record in the first week.

Their Playoffs opponent is determined by the OOD vs SGR match, where the loser will move down in the lower bracket to play an elimination match against HBK. This team’s roster has been the biggest concern. Throughout the season, HBK has been known to consistently swap up their players. It’s undetermined if this is a strategic move or if there’s some underlying issues in the team. That being said, we’re looking to see if HBK took the break week to solidify their roster and improve their decision making.

Team A-Click [ACE] - 5th Seed

Team A-Click exited Season 2 as the DU Champions of the League, which means there would be a giant target on their backs moving into Season 3. ACE has been known for fielding exceptionally talented players, but their team play this season has been lackluster to say the least. They were able to take down their rivals, POG, but ended up losing out to teams that they were expected to beat, resulting in their 5th place seeding.

Their Playoffs opponent is determined by the loser of the TUB vs POG match. Should the expected seeding results follow through in the outcomes, ACE can expect to play POG, a team they’ve 2-0’d in the Regular Season. It also seems that ACE has solved their roster issues, fielding Vsepr in the support role and moving Vambient to mid, and Swordblue to jungle. Only time will tell if these roster moves are worth it.

Poseidon Gaming [POG] - 4th Seed

Poseidon Gaming exited Season 2 as Grand Finalists, and entered Season 3 with a goal in mind - to win. Nothing more, nothing less. POG coasted through the first half of the season, just barely a few wins behind 1st Seed TUB. However a few losses in the 2nd half, partnered with a few roster moves, resulted in their 4th place seeding.

Their first opponent in Playoffs is The Ugly Barnacles, the nearly undefeated 1st Seed team. Both sides feature extremely strong individual players, but what we’re looking for from POG isn’t mechanical prowess. We’re looking to see how POG manages their map play to ensure that the advantages that they receive in the early game can be snowballed into the mid and late-game objectives.

SGR.jpg

SGR Reborn [SGR] - 3rd Seed

SGR Reborn features some of the most mechanically skilled players in the League. StreetSmurf, Season 1 Champion and Season 2 Grand Finalist, returns with his own residential team to take on the Season 3 teams. In the beginning, SGR was looking like one of the strongest teams, but a few misplays in their late game in most of their games resulted in their 3rd place finish. However, even in losses, SGR looked relatively confident in their play.

SGR’s Playoff opponent is against 2nd Seed OOD, which features one of the best ADCs in the League and StreetSmurf’s former teammate, Antoons. With OOD on an upswing, it’s going to be on SGR to mentally reset and prepare themselves for a potential 3-game series. SGR didn’t look too hot in their last match against OOD, so a win here would prove that this team didn’t waste their time during the break week.

Team Ooh Deer [OOD] - 2nd Seed

In Season 1, OOD ended 3rd/4th, losing out to ATL & KCN (ACE). In Season 2, OOD didn’t make the playoffs. In Season 3, OOD has revamped everything and is entering the playoffs as the 2nd Seed. Most teams that don’t do well in one season usually don’t come back. There’s a long history with this team and after three seasons of play, you can tell that OOD is hungry for a championship. Photograph pairing up with Antoons has been a remarkable upgrade to the team, of which both are holding the #2 spots for kills (Photograph - 98) and assists (Antoons - 163).

OOD’s Playoff opponent will be SGR Reborn. This is a classic OOD versus StreetSmurf matchup. Both of these teams are 1-1 against each other in the Regular Season, so now it’s time to prove once and for all which team is better. OOD has always been creative when it comes to playmaking. That being said, all eyes are going to be on how they manage their mid-late game fights. OOD has nearly thrown a couple leads in the past, but if they’ve taken the time to clean it all up during the break week, there’s a chance OOD takes the whole tournament.

TUB.jpg

The Ugly Barnacles [TUB] - 1st Seed

The Ugly Barnacles as a team played at an extremely high level with Rhyre in the jungle. He has carried numerous games as Viego while also being where he needs to be for his team and to get them ahead in the early game. In my mind, he is the best jungler in the Mythic League and arguably the Most Valuable Player for Season 3.

Another player worth pointing out is their captain and former ADC for Poseidon Gaming, Krumpy. At the start of the league, the audience was in for a bit of a surprise to see him playing off-role and away from the bot lane to 1v1 against his lane match-up in the mid lane. During those matches he would rely on the utility and high-scaling power of Orianna to go toe-to-toe against anyone that tried to walk into his lane. However, his damage-dealt stats piled up even higher once he stepped back into the bot lane with Lamar the Lizard. Overall, TUB is the best team in the league and the pressure is now on for them as they need to stay focused to understand that the road to be champions has only just begun.
