Utility Monster and JeffGodGamer’s Week 1 Helios Power Rankings

“Hi everyone and welcome to WEEK ONE HELIOS POWER RANKINGS with UTILITY MONSTER and JEFFGODGAMER. It’s time to OVERREACT IN ALL CAPS and judge teams based on a ONE WEEK SAMPLE SIZE because that’s what we have to work with. Luckily, we’re very good reactionary pundits, so we can’t wait to tell you WHY ALL THESE TEAMS ARE LITERALLY THE BEST/WORST BECAUSE THEY WON/LOST ONE GAME.

Last week we ranked all these teams 8th BECAUSE THEY’RE ALL TRASH, but the astute reader may have noticed the order of the teams was the real power rankings all along, so that’s what the +/- ranking change is based on. This first week of games was fantastic to watch, and we can’t wait to see these teams continue to evolve and improve over the course of a full season. Remember that this list is our assessment of how good these teams are right now, and it would be shocking if this is exactly what the final standings look like. Good starts are still important in the race for playoffs, though, so OUR PREMATURE EVALUATIONS ARE ENTIRELY JUSTIFIED.

Also, luckily for us, Jeff has finished moving into his new apartment, so he is set up to do the advanced MS Paint graphic design that was sorely lacking in last week’s installment. Head producer Chris Sunga tried to fill in and do the team graphics for us, but obviously the end result fell short of the standards we set for ourselves here at FoF. We’re truly sorry, and we hope it will never happen again.

LET THE HOT TAKES BEGIN!”

8th - CFG [-2]

WOW, THIS TEAM LOST BOTH THEIR GAMES, THEY MUST SUCK. 8TH! CFG had a rough introduction to FoF competition, losing convincingly in both their games this last week. In fairness to CFG, the two teams who beat them ended the week 2-0. The first loss was to INT, our number one ranked team both before and after this week, so it can’t be held against them too much. The second loss to PTP was potentially more worrying, however, since they showed many of the same skirmishing weaknesses against a worse individual team on paper. It’s still early days, but CFG needs to practice their early fights and communication a bit more so they don’t get blown out so easily.

7th - GURL [+/-]

After tragically losing their first game to PTP in a 48 minute slugfest, GURL received a freebie thanks to an unfortunate forfeit from AGS. THEY CAN’T WIN UNLESS THEY LITERALLY DON’T PLAY! Unfortunately for us, that means we have even less to go on when evaluating the quality of GURL’s play. They had a strong early game vs PTP, getting off to an 11-2 kill lead, but PTP was able to fight back due to questionable fights and build paths. xNek0x had a very good showing as Lux which GURL can look to build off of going into this week with games against CFG and INT.

6th - AGS [-2]

AGS unfortunately had to forfeit their second game of the season, leaving us with only one game of information to dive into. AGS ARE TOO SCARED TO PLAY AFTER JUST ONE LOSS, THEY’LL PROBABLY TILT AND LOSE THE REST OF THEIR GAMES. AGS built an early gold lead thanks to blind countering REX’s level one invade, but was unable to overcome REX in fights and eventually lost. AGS has a fairly challenging week ahead, facing RLS and PTP, which will give us a much better understanding of this team.

5th - REX [-2]

With a day one comeback win against AGS after a nightmare level one invade, REX talked enough trash to fill up my local transfer station. THEY COULD TALK THE TALK, BUT THEY COULDN’T WALK THE WALK, getting generally outplayed in teamfights after a small early advantage as well as looking indecisive in some key moments. Still, the loss wasn’t completely one-sided, and REX will look to continue to build synergy as they head into a tough schedule next week. We’re forced to rank them below the teams that looked better against higher ranked opposition, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see REX bounce back in their next games. IMPROVE FAST OR YOU’RE GOING NOWHERE, KIDS.

4th - PTP [+4]

THEY CAN’T LOSE! One of our only two undefeated teams after a hard fought first week, PTP jumps up in the rankings. Sure, the teams they beat are ranked last in the league, and sure, the game against GURL especially was a fiesta, but wins are wins. Substitute support CyborgSkull has been on quite a tear, so we wouldn’t mind him moving to a starting role either. ON THE UP AND UP AFTER A 0-14 SEASON, PTP MIGHT HAVE TURNED INTO THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE! Still, they need to beat some better teams before we can move them up further than we have in the rankings. Their laning is still questionable, and while their later skirmishes and teamfights look solid, it’s possible they won’t get to that stage of the game on equal footing against the best teams in this league.

3rd - TG [+2]

Emerging 1-1 from a rough schedule week one with bouts against both our #1 and #2 ranked teams is a pretty good result for TG. However, watching their games it seemed more like a fluke than a deserved result. They teamfought well against RLS to come back and win a fight at dragon soul, but their early laning was poor. The same problems emerged against INT, who closed out the game much more cleanly than the day before. It’s hard to be too critical of the result, but we’d like to see more solid wins and fewer shaky laning phases before we bump TG up any further. TRY NOT LOSING ALL YOUR LANES FOR ONCE.

2nd - RLS [+/-]

We said Ahntye was a player to watch, and he proved us right, leading the league with 20 kills after week one. The rest of the team looked solid as well. That said, this team’s macro looked shakier than expected in week one, especially given their experience and preexisting synergy. They couldn’t convert a reasonable gold lead in their first game against TG, and had a harder time than they should have had while closing out a significant gold lead against REX. The plus side, of course, is that they’re generating those leads to begin with, and WINNING CLEANLY OBVIOUSLY WASN’T SOMETHING THEY WERE ABLE TO PRACTICE VERY MUCH LAST SEASON since they were just WORSE INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS. Thanks to their solid early games and overall convincing victory over REX, as opposed to TG’s shellacking at the hands of INT, we’re keeping RLS ranked above TG despite TG’s victory over them. These teams are clearly close in skill level, though, so we’ll be keeping our eyes on both these teams going into next week. BREAK A LEG RLS.

1st - INT [+/-]

There were no signs of rust this week as INT brutally demolished their opponents in both games, all while subbing in players and doing some role swapping. It was good to see them back in action, and most of the team deservedly sits on top of the Helios KDA leaderboard. Helios League is going to turn into a race for second place if INT keeps this up, so we hope the other teams can improve and start to challenge them to make it more interesting for us viewers. Have you considered going back to Valorant guys? YOU’RE ONLY WINNING BECAUSE YOU’RE BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE. It’s hard to imagine INT losing this spot any time soon, given how good they looked and their preexisting synergy from last season.
