Duo-vs-Duo Chess Tournament

General Tournament Info

Tournament Format

• Each team member in a match plays two 5+0 blitz games against a player on the other team, one game as white and one as black. Players then switch opponents and play another set of 5+0 twice against the other player. Afterwards, the teams combine and play a two-game match of 5+5 HAND AND BRAIN chess against each other, switching hand and brain between the games. (Six games total).

• HAND AND BRAIN CHESS: One player is the ‘brain’ and is only allowed to say the name of a piece each turn (‘knight’ or ‘pawn’ or ‘queen’). Other player is the ‘hand’ and must move the piece named to any square they choose.

• The highest scoring team wins. In each game, a win = 1 point, a draw = 0.5 points, and a loss = 0 points.

• If needed, tiebreaker is one Armageddon match of 1+0 bullet between the lowest rated player on each team (if the game is a draw black wins). Coinflip determines colors.

• Exact number of team matches will depend on the number of sign-ups.

Registration

•  Sign up as a team with a partner OR as an individual to be automatically assigned a teammate.

• The combined ELO of the duo must not exceed 2400.

Dates

• Registration will close on October 14th. The tournament sheet will be released shortly afterwards

• Match Days are October 21st and 22nd.

• Games will be played at 12 PM PST.
